One of the most amazing historical wonders is the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. The Acropolis is located on one the many hills of Athens and can be seen from many parts of the city. Athens is a growing city of about 3 million people in the urban areas in and around the city. The whole country of Greece boasts a population of around 10 million inhabitants.

The Acropolis has significant historical significance as it is the remains of many of the historic structures from hundreds of years B.C. Some of the most famous structures include the Parthenon, which was built as a temple dedicated to the Greek Goddess, Athena.

When visiting the Acropolis, there are two major entrances, the west entrance and the east entrance. I recommend entering via the west entrance. Tickets to tour the Acropolis area are easily purchased at the ticket station near the West entrance, but make sure you give yourself enough time, as your ticket does not provide in and out privileges.

It is about a 15-minute short walk up a moderate incline to get to the main gate of the Acropolis complex. What is great about the complex is it much more than the Parthenon, as there are many other remains including of the temple, Erechtehion and the Temple of Athena Nike.  These temples are very well preserved.

Another really cool structure in the Acropolis complex is the Odeon which was designed as facility in approximately 161 A.D. for performances. This structure is basically built into the side of a mountain and viewing, you can easily imagine it being packed with viewers of the stage.
