Career – About Me
Michael Vater (pronounced VAH-ter), Esq., Managing Partner of The Ticktin Law Group (HQ: South Florida), a U.S. News-Certified ‘Best Company to Work For’ with approximately 40 employees, has successfully strategized, argued and won complex litigation cases across the US and abroad, including more than 20 Florida counties (Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, Broward, Monroe and Alachua Counties), California, Texas, Pennsylvania, Ohio , South Carolina and Iceland (a victory that created case precedent in the European Union re: consumer rights in aviation disputes). Conducted Oral Argument in Four of the Six Appellate Courts in the State of Florida (First, Second, Fourth and Fifth District Court of Appeal). Now has appeared before Judges in over 25 counties in the State of Florida.
Since joining The Ticktin Law Group in April 2010, Vater has specialized in entertainment, personal injury and real estate litigation. He’s been lead counsel in more than 1600 cases, litigating more than 100 Jury and Non-Jury Trials. Vater has taken cases to Trial which have resulted in over a million dollars of damages awarded for his clients. Vater has also been masterful at resolving cases at mediation through his methods of aggressively litigating his cases.
Vater has been repeatedly recognized by Super Lawers for his legal excellence as a Rising Star- a distinction awarded to only 2.5% of lawyers in the state of Florida. Vater has been admitted pro hac vice to appear in multiple states and is admitted in Federal Court as a member of the United States District Court, Northern District of Florida, the United States District Court, Middle District of Florida, the United States District Court, Southern District of Florida and the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.
Vater attended the University of Florida Levin College of Law where he received the Certificate of Excellence for Pro Bono work with Community Legal Services, a Certificate of Distinction for Community Service Participation and served as a two-time Representative to the John Marshall Bar Association. Additionally, he completed coursework in International Business Law in Paris and Montpellier, France through the Universite Montpellier II and earned his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Florida graduating with a 3.9 GPA. Vater earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame majoring in Government and International Studies with a minor from the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies.
Fun Facts
I take my law lens on the road… enjoying traveling, as a member of the 50/50/50 club (50 states, 50 state capitals and 50 countries). My current number of countries visited is 68. I have been to all 13 U.S. Presidential libraries and all U.S. President burial sites. I’ve been to all 10 Canadian Provinces. I’ve been to 57 out of the 63 U.S. National Parks including all parks within the Continental United States. I’ve been to either a football or basketball game at all the college campuses of the Power 5 conference teams. (Approx 55 teams). I’ve also been to games at all MLB, NFL, NBA and NHL Stadiums for all the teams.
